Waverly Health Center clinics are seeing an increase in the number of parents asking for return-to-school notes for their children. COVID-19 evaluation notes will only be provided for students, faculty and staff who are tested for COVID-19 based on their symptoms. Without a COVID-19 test, the infection cannot be ruled out even if they test positive for another illness such as strep throat or influenza or if they have seasonal allergies.
There are several COVID-19 testing options for students, faculty and staff. Individuals with a fever, respiratory issues or other symptoms of COVID-19 should call their family practice provider for guidance. If testing is advised, they may go to the Walk-In Clinic at Waverly Health Center or another urgent care center for an assessment and testing if they meet the testing criteria. If testing-only is needed, TestIowa is a good resource.
Waverly Health Center Testing Plan:
The following test plan applies to students, faculty and school staff:
- Individuals with symptoms (fever of 100.4 degrees or above, cough and shortness of breath) – These individuals will be assessed by a provider and if indicated, a COVID-19 test will be ordered. The test specimen will be sent to the State Hygienic Laboratory. Test results are normally available in 24 to 48 hours from the time the lab receives the test. A WHC staff member will share the results with the patient.
- Individuals without symptoms who may have been exposed to someone who tested positive (asymptomatic close contacts) – These individuals will be encouraged to go to the TestIowa website to take the online assessment. If testing is warranted, they will be able to schedule an appointment for testing at a TestIowa site. There are currently two locations in Waterloo. Go to TestIowa.com for more information.
