Chris Thompson

On February 17, Chris Thompson went to the Walk-In Clinic at Waverly Health Center with vomiting, severe pain between her shoulder blades and a burning sensation in her upper chest.

“I had been diagnosed with Influenza B the prior Saturday and assumed I was still fighting that,” Chris said. “But the doctor took one look at me and had me taken right away to the emergency department. All of a sudden, I was surrounded by many people doing all sorts of things.”

Chris was having a heart attack. “My nurse Tiffany told me I needed to be transferred to a heart hospital. And just like that I was in an ambulance, with a wonderful crew taking care of me, heading to Allen Hospital.”

Before being released from the hospital, the doctor asked Chris where she wanted to go for cardiac rehab. “As I thought back to the outstanding care I received from all of the staff in the ED and the ambulance crew, I didn’t hesitate to say I wanted to go to Waverly Health Center. I have not regretted that decision!”

Cardiac rehab uses exercise to help people with heart issues improve their heart function and overall well-being. Chris stated, “The nurses in cardiac rehab have been absolutely fabulous. Each of them takes the time to get to know their patients personally so that they can make a rehab plan that is best for each person. This helps patients reach their goals.”

“As a former principal, I feel that getting to know each person while working with them is an effective way to build trust. I was particularly happy that they took the time to find out what sort of workouts I was doing before my event so that they could get me back to my normal routine.”

Michelle, Rebecca and Nikki are the nurses in cardiac rehab. “The nurses make each patient feel welcome and safe. This encourages each of us to work hard to meet the goal of returning to our daily routines with constant encouragement and support from each of them,” Chris stated.

“I can, without hesitation, highly recommend WHC for cardiac rehab as well as for emergency care.”
