Five members of the Waverly Health Center (WHC) team have been named December Spotlight on Values award winners. Nominated by co-workers, patients and members of the community, these individuals are examples of WHC’s values in action.
Linda Hansen of Fairbank, materials management, was recognized for the value of compassion. Linda helped a patient get where she needed to go. Her nominator continued, “The patient was so grateful for Linda’s help. She had tears in her eyes as she thanked Linda.”
Sheila Fox of Waverly, medical-surgical, was recognized for the value of enthusiasm. Sheila’s nominator shared, “We recently had a pediatric patient that wasn’t eating well. The child loved to hula hoop. Sheila promised to do a hula hoop dance for her if she ate. Sheila not only did a dance, but taught her how to walk while hula hooping.”
Abby Miller of Parkersburg, human resources, was recognized for the value of excellence. Abby came up with new hiring solutions to help a department when they had a number of openings. Her nominator said, “Thank you, Abby, for always having an open door. It allows me to come in and troubleshoot situations that come up.”
Vicky Aissen of Waverly, surgery, was recognized for the value of innovation. Vicky took on additional work in an effort to decrease patient wait times. Her nominator commented, “She has been working in multiple departments recently and because of her experience, she sees things from many different perspectives.”
Marietta Bagby of Waterloo, emergency department, was recognized for the value of leadership. Marietta is a resource and is quick to help her coworkers. Her nominator stated, “I appreciate Marietta’s dedication. She is one of a kind and any day that I get to work with her is a great one!”
WHC has adopted six values which include compassion, enthusiasm, excellence, innovation, integrity and leadership. The Spotlight on Values program recognizes WHC employees, volunteers and physicians for demonstrating these values. Patients, visitors and employees are encouraged to submit nominations for the WHC Spotlight on Values honors. Nominations can be submitted online or at any Spotlight on Values ballot boxes placed throughout the health center.
