Eight members of the Waverly Health Center (WHC) team have been named November/December Spotlight on Values award winners. Nominated by co-workers, patients and members of the community, these individuals are examples of WHC’s values in action.

Carol Hardee, Clarksville, and Cheryl Stevenson, Waverly, environmental services, were recognized for the value of enthusiasm. Their nominator wrote, “I am delighted to nominate both Carol Hardee and Cheryl Stevenson for the Spotlight Award in recognition of their outstanding embodiment of the value of enthusiasm. Carol and Cheryl are constant sources of positivity within the WHC team. They are always smiling and are often the first to greet others, striking up conversations with genuine warmth and friendliness. Their polite demeanors and wonderful senses of humor are truly contagious, brightening my day and the days of those around them. Their enthusiasm doesn’t just make work more enjoyable—it inspires others to bring their best selves to the team. I deeply appreciate and thank both Carol and Cheryl for being such valuable assets and consistently positive forces within the WHC team.”

Haleigh Vette, Waverly, Christophel Clinic, was recognized for the value of excellence. Her nominator noted, “Haleigh goes above and beyond to help me provide excellent care and make sure our Christophel team works together. She consistently provides patients with knowledge in a compassionate way and exemplifies what makes WHC great! Haleigh is organized and persistent. She reaches out to patients prior to appointments to make sure we have all the needed information to make each visit productive. Haleigh has recently taken on additional duties of sending daily messages to Christophel Clinic staff and organizing personnel while our manager has been out on leave. She comes in early and takes pride in updating staff about last-minute changes. She will frequently reach out to specialists to make sure we have coordinated care.”

Charles Lee and Marc Hallman, both of Waverly, plant services, were recognized for the value of innovation. Their nominator wrote, “Have you noticed the beautiful plants around the hospital? Or the fun jack-o-lantern planters outside? Or the wonderful landscape of our hospital lawn? We have Charles Lee and Marc Hallman to thank for this. They have come up with creative ways to keep our hospital and landscape beautiful all year long. Thank you for your hard work, Charles and Marc.”

Justin Crouse, Waverly, Accounting, was recognized for the value of integrity. His nominator noted, “He has gone above and beyond since day one. He is here early and stays late. He makes sure we are in the know and if we have questions, it doesn’t matter what he is doing, he stops to come and help. If he is in a meeting, he will chat with us to make sure our questions are answered. If he doesn’t know the answers to our questions, he finds out or leads us to the individuals that will be able to assist us. He always goes above and beyond to make sure everyone in every department has answers to their questions and understands how he got the answer. Everyone is treated with respect and kindness, and you know you can always count on Justin to be there when you need help. He is definitely one of a kind. WHC is lucky to have him as a dedicated leader.“

Stephanie Penney, Hawkeye, Birthing Center, was recognized for the value of leadership. Her nominator wrote, “Stephanie has stepped up and made a huge impact on our unit with great confidence that was needed. Stephanie is always willing to learn. When staff have a family emergency, she is more than willing to jump in and help get shifts covered. Stephanie is always willing to work the floor alongside staff as well. She is a huge advocate for staff and has a strong voice for our unit. Stephanie ensures the needs of her staff members are being met. Stephanie has done incredible things for the birthing center in the short time she has been with us. She is always looking for ways to improve the department and gain extra education opportunities for us. We are excited about her new role and are anxious to see the improvements she can make in not one but two departments.”

Ellen Jacque, ARNP, Waverly, Janesville Clinic, received WHC’s Quarterly Provider Spotlight on Values Award. Her nominators wrote, ” When our family faced an unexpected medical crisis, Ellen Jacque went far beyond the call of duty to provide compassionate, expert care for our loved one. She not only ensured timely medical intervention and closely monitored every detail of the treatment plan but also offered emotional support that brought immense comfort during an incredibly difficult time. Her ability to communicate complex medical information with clarity and empathy helped our entire family feel informed and empowered. Even outside of scheduled hours, she checked in regularly, coordinated with specialists, and advocated tirelessly to ensure the best possible outcomes. Her dedication, kindness, and professionalism made a lasting impact on our family, and we are deeply grateful for the extraordinary care she provided. Ellen is the most kind, caring provider I have ever had the privilege to take care of my medical needs. She listens to my concerns and answers any questions I have. She will find the best solution to any issue I may have; she will just carry on a conversation with me about what is going on with me, offer suggestions, point you in the right direction if she is unsure. She definitely fits into all categories above; she is well deserving of the Provider spotlight on values!”

WHC has adopted six values which include compassion, enthusiasm, excellence, innovation, integrity and leadership. The Spotlight on Values program recognizes WHC employees, volunteers and physicians for demonstrating these values.
