Fast Action Leads to Full Recovery for Surgical Patient
A typical summer day turned into an emergency appendectomy for Hampton resident Matt Skocz. He woke up with a mild stomachache and had been experiencing nausea and vomiting throughout the day. After a few hours, Matt’s pain quickly increased.
Matt initially went to the emergency room at his local hospital. He was then transferred to Waverly Health Center (WHC) for surgery. Dr. Melissa Garrett, of Cedar Valley Medical Specialists, is a general surgeon at WHC. She performed the procedure only hours after Matt’s symptoms began.
Once in recovery, Matt recognized his pain was completely relieved. He is thankful for each person who helped make his surgery and recovery a success.
“My experience at Waverly Health Center was excellent,” said Matt. “When I arrived, the surgical staff was expecting me and ready to go. My post-operative care was outstanding – the nurses didn’t miss a beat.”
Thanks to Dr. Garrett’s reassuring care, Matt was able to return to work after only eight days. He is carefully regaining mobility and strength in his abdomen.
“Dr. Garrett made it clear to me that she would be available for any questions or concerns while I was healing,” said Matt. “The entire team provided fantastic care. I felt completely supported.”
