Waverly Health Center’s (WHC) Melinda Pitt, of Waverly, has been honored with the 2025 Friend of Nursing Award.
Pitt has been the volunteer services manager at WHC since 2013. She was nominated for the award by Cynthia Cmelik-Reams, Clinical Systems Analyst, Information Systems.
In her nomination, Cmelik-Reams wrote, “Melinda goes above and beyond in supporting the nursing staff and directly contributing to the care of our patients through her exceptional management of the volunteer program. Her leadership creates a seamless environment where volunteers and nursing staff work hand in hand to provide the best possible care for our patients.”
As Volunteer Services Manager, Melinda ensures that the hospital’s volunteers are trained and available to assist in a variety of ways that alleviate the workload on our nursing staff. Melinda’s coordination allows nursing staff to focus on patient care rather than these essential, but time-consuming tasks. This not only improves patient satisfaction but also enhances the efficiency of nursing care, allowing nurses to dedicate more time to their core responsibilities.
Nominated by WHC nurses, the annual Friend of Nursing Award provides an opportunity for non-nursing staff or volunteers to be recognized for going above and beyond to support nurses and contribute to the nursing practice. Nursing staff rely heavily on the support from others to maintain the organization and to care for patients.

In 2024, WHC’s SHIIP team assisted hundreds of area residents with compassion, patience and expertise. Their dedication didn’t go unnoticed.
“Our SHIIP counselors are a vital part of what makes WHC so special,” said Melinda Pitt, Volunteer Services Manager. “They offer not just knowledge, but care and empathy to every person they serve. We’re thrilled the Auxiliary chose to recognize their efforts this year.”
WHC is fortunate to have such passionate volunteers making a difference every day. Congratulations and thank you to our 2025 Volunteers of the Year!
