A Scary Night for Ames
When five-year-old Ames of Denver developed sudden stomach pain, dizziness and vomiting after a weekend outdoors, his mom brought him to the Waverly Health Center Emergency Department. There, he received treatment for pediatric dehydration that helped him quickly regain his strength and energy.
Sudden Symptoms
That night, Ames woke up with sharp stomach pains, dizziness and nonstop vomiting. His mom, Karly, knew this was more than just being tired. She brought him straight to the Emergency Department at Waverly Health Center (WHC).
Care at WHC Emergency Department
Ames was scared and exhausted. From the moment he arrived, the WHC team stepped in to help.
Michael, an advanced registered nurse practitioner, along with nurses Noah and Terri, quickly assessed him and worked to keep him comfortable.
When it came time for a blood draw and IV fluids, Ames’ fear grew. The nurses stayed calm and gentle, explaining each step so he knew what to expect.
Supportive and Gentle Team
Lab tech Alyssa brought patience and kindness during the routine blood draw. With the team’s encouragement, Ames found the courage to get through two pokes—a big accomplishment for a little boy.
He received two bags of fluids to rehydrate his body. Within an hour, his color returned, the dizziness faded, and his smile came back. The diagnosis was dehydration.
Gratitude for Compassionate Care
Karly was grateful for the team’s attentiveness.
“They were so kind and friendly,” she said. “They walked us through each step and helped Ames feel safe and supported.”
Thanks to the fast care of the Waverly Health Center Emergency team, Ames was soon back to being his happy, energetic self. Ready for more outdoor adventures.
