Drew Mummelthei, of Waverly, woke up on his final day of harvest with pain in his stomach. With a lot of work to do, he knew he needed to jump in the tractor and get going. As his day continued, so did his pain. His son Andy had to help him get in and out of the farm machinery.
After a full day of work, Mummelthei went home and laid down. His wife, Joy, knew something wasn’t right. “I was miserable, and Joy told me she was taking me in,” said Mummelthei. Together they headed to Waverly Health Center’s emergency department.
“The emergency room was great and got me in right away,” Mummelthei stated. The emergency room team went to work to figure out what was causing the pain. It was determined that Mummelthei needed to have his appendix removed.
Dr. J. Matthew Glascock and his team took him off to surgery. “We were really impressed with Dr. Glascock and all the nurses on the floor,” Mummelthei said. “From the check in to the follow up, we were very happy! All in all, 10 out of 10 for the whole experience.”

After some much-needed rest and recovery, Mummelthei returned to farming and doing what he loves. “We are lucky to have such wonderful services and care right here in Waverly,” he said.
