Twelve-year-old Paisley, of Aplington, was playing basketball at school on a Friday when she fell and landed on her wrist. She immediately felt a sharp pain but was able to finish her day at school.
By Saturday morning, the pain had not improved. Paisley’s mom, Jacinda, decided not to wait until Monday to see a doctor and brought her to the Waverly Health Center (WHC) Walk-In Clinic. They checked in online and were seen by Mary Hughes, ARNP, shortly after they arrived.
An X-ray taken by WHC radiology revealed a buckle fracture. Paisley’s wrist was put in a splint to keep it stabilized until she was able to be seen by orthopedics. The following week, Paisley received further examination and treatment from Dr. Jeffrey Clark, an orthopedic surgeon with Cedar Valley Medical Specialists and WHC visiting specialist. After three weeks in a cast, Paisley was excited to return to regular activities and grateful for the quick care she received.
When Paisley’s brother, Trace, injured his ankle a few months later, their parents chose to return to the WHC Walk-In Clinic.
“We were impressed with our experience at the clinic with Paisley,” said Jacinda Schipper, “We didn’t hesitate to bring Trace in when he injured his ankle. It is so convenient to have access to the services we need all in one place.”
Trace is healing from a sprained ankle and enjoying his baseball season. Whether a sprained ankle or a broken wrist, the Schipper family is thankful to have access to the Walk-In Clinic.
“Hopefully we will not have to be back any time soon,” said Jacinda. “It’s nice to have the option to be seen quickly when it is needed.”
