Waverly Health Center (WHC) continues to play a vital role in strengthening Bremer County’s economy. According to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA), WHC generated 816 jobs and added $129.1 million to the local economy in 2024. The report also found that WHC contributed 10.7 percent of Bremer County’s gross domestic product.
“Our hospital is deeply rooted in this community. We see ourselves as more than just a place of care. We’re neighbors, partners and supporters of the local economy,” said Jodi Geerts, WHC CEO. “From the jobs we help sustain to the local programs we support, the impact we make together goes beyond our walls. This report reflects our ongoing commitment to working alongside others to build a healthier, stronger community for everyone.”
Impact Across Iowa
The study, based on data hospitals submit to the American Hospital Association’s annual survey, shows the far-reaching role hospitals play across the state. In 2024:
-
Iowa hospitals employed 141,708 people
-
Hospitals provided more than $9.6 billion in wages
-
Hospital expenses accounted for over $22.9 billion of the state’s gross domestic product
“These benefits aren’t just numbers,” said Chris Mitchell, IHA President and CEO. “They represent real programs and services that improve lives across Iowa. Many of these initiatives wouldn’t exist without the leadership and commitment of our hospitals and health systems.”
